Casa Das Obras - Manteigas - Building
1
9,6 Excellent (673 reviews)
R1 006+
Overview Reviews
Located near Serra da Estrela, this 250-year old manor house has historic furnishings and artistic accessories. Each themed room is a reminder of older way of life. The sunny rooms of Casa Das Obras also have modern comforts such as a TV and central heating. Guests can relax and unwind at the Casa Das Obras’s outdoor swimming pool. A wholesome breakfast consisting of local cuisine is also offered here. Casa Das Obras is within driving distance of the natural springs of Caldas de Manteigas. The beautiful Poço do Inferno Waterfall is also a short drive away.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Casa das obras oozes history. That's why we felt "back in time". However, although it is an ancient house, the rooms were very comfortable and adapted to the needs of today's travelers. The breakfast was very extensive and tastefull and the accomodation provides everything you need, especially when travelling with two teens like we did : pool biliard , swimming pool, walking tours and last but not least... wifi (although this could be better in the rooms).
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing historical house in the center of Manteigas, surrounded by the mountains. The pool was perfect to relax after our trek
Cons: Nothing at all
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The charm of a Portuguese house from the 18th century; amazing breakfast, distinctive attention from staff; the view; the excellent area close to the swimming pool. It is a gem in the Serra da Estrela. A special place, full of history.
Cons: Maybe the washroom toiletries n products (soap and shampoo and towels).
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The building was truly stunning. Full of history. It was obviously an old family home, that if it wasn't a bed and breakfast could have been opened to the public as somewhere of historical interest. Absolutely beautiful. We were welcomed and given an introduction to the facilities, and made to feel completely at home; really made to feel that if thee was anything we needed we just had to ask. Facilities for guests were above and beyond anything that you would normally expect. Tea and coffee, cakes and biscuits in a public area at all times. Reading room with books and games (chess, draughts, etc) available. A pool table. The room was large and very comfortable, with a well stocked mini-bar at reasonable prices (beer, red and white wine, port, and water) Garden with outdoor swimming pool. The breakfast was out of this world, with a variety of fruits, breads, cold meats and cheeses, etc. Several of the breads and cakes available were clearly homemade, and in our one-month tour of France, Spain and Portugal this was without doubt the best quality and most varied breakfast of any of the places we stayed. We are already planning our return visit next year, for a longer stay as we want to explore the area a lot more. Casa das Obras does not have a restaurant, bit there are several nearby. We chose Bar/restaurant Serradalto, (only five minutes walk away) which looks unexceptional from outside, but the food was excellent. I ordered trout in the house style, and got two whole trout. My wife ordered steak, and got two where one might have been expected. Including one starter, one desert, and a carafe of wine, the total bill was €32. Good value for money and good food.
Cons: The booking.com website refers to on-site parking. In fact it is only on-road parking. We were travelling by motorbike, and we were offered the option of parking the bike in the garden, behind a locked gate, but in the end didn't feel the need to move it off the road. Access is via a steep, narrow, cobbled street, but in the end t wasn't as difficult as it looked!

Cons: Beautiful place and very welcoming people A1
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. Simply stunning grand old family house, cared for and greatly loved by owner. Beautiful garden and pool with stunning views. Wished we could have lingered over the wonderful breakfast spread but oir schedule didn't allow.
Cons: Nothing.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: All good reviews are true - everything was perfect. It's endeed very old family house. Very atmospheric place, feels like a real family nest. Our room was very big, bed was huge and looked awesome, bathroom was comfortable. Vintage furniture still looked very good and was very functional and comfortable. Everything was fulfilled with a lot of lovely and beautiful details. Breakfasts were one of the best! The house itself is more like museum. It has a lot of interesting things to look at. And not to mention the location - Manteigas and surroundings are so good I can't really describe in words. Beautiful mountains, excellent routes with a lot of wild cherries as a surprising bonus. It's special, we really like it a lot (perhaps it is our the most beloved impression from Portugal). For all of this the price was more than fair.
Cons: It was a little bit cold inside the room because of the cool weather. But big warm blankets saved the situation. It was a pitty that weather was not warm enough to enjoy a lovely pool. But all of this were little nothings compared to all the available benefits.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The lady who welcomed us and was the owner /manager was such a nice person so friendly and helpful, suggesting a daily itinerary and restaurants.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: A large, comfortable room in an amazing old building. Very friendly host, great breakfast and with walking distance of several restaurants (Santa Luzia very good). An ideal base to explore the impressive Serra de Estrela. Recommended.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: What did we like? Everything....We were welcomed with a open fireplace in our apartment. The apartment was spacious, spotlessly clean and absolutely nice. The setup of Cases do Pastor is as if all apartments are one little medieval village. The view over the countryside is stunning. Our host Rui was one of the nicest Portugese hosts we met. Breakfast was superb too. There is even a small shop: you get the key to the door and can take whatever you need, just write it down and pay when you leave. We will most certainly return to this fantastic place.
Cons: What didn't we like? Nothing at all....
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The whole stay was amazing. We arrived late and it was absolutely no problem. The house we lived in was very nice, clean and has a character of a hut. Inside it was very romantic and we cooked our own meal in the evening and play chess - this we get from the owner. The location is for hiking in the Parque Natural da Serra da Estrela great - but you need a car first to get to the hiking trails. But the owner gives many advices and cards for hiking. The breakfast, the pool and the untypical location are fascinating. The owner is going to build some more very nice places for children in the next years. We were sad for staying only two days there.
Cons: In the night there were many dogs barking. You need ear plugs if you are sensitive.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: This was the most amazing experience! Amazing owner and host that could not have impressed us more with his hospitality. Loved the accommodation and setting. Best breakfast we had in Portugal. Highly recommended.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: - The view from the Chalés with the big window front is amazing. - The staff is very nice, friendly and helpful. - Perfect place to relax. - We could bring our cat.
Cons: The place exceeded our expectations, so we have nothing to add here :)
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The host is very helpful. He can recommend you nice hiking options and relaxing locations in the Serra Estrela. The charlet gives you an astonishing view over the valley down to Seia.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Rui the owner of the chales was wonderful! The place was just what we were looking for. Dinner also perfect. One of the best places to stay!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Rui is a super host - because he super kind, nice, attentive, and helpful host. He made sure we were confortable and available to help every time we need help and/or information! The rooms are spacious, confortable for thefamy of four (we stayed in a 2bedroom house), the rooms are heared and he would bring wood/set up fire place every evening! Location wise there is lots of access to trails near by and close museums and on the way to the ski area! We would love to come back again!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. Great place, very nice people, swimming pool, breakfast, little shop, wonderful setting. Would recommend to everyone. We stayed only for one night during our trip but will keep very nice memories. Owner is a very nice, passionate person.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Best rural accommodation ever. Everything one can ask for, comfort, relax, natural beauty, warmth in winter (fireplace!!) and excellent wi-fi! The help from Sr. Rui & family was awesome, there is actually no words to describe it. We will surely be back in summertime!
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Great location, beautifully reconditioned stone-village houses. Exceptional service. Rui was super accommodating with our last minute requests. Loved it.
Cons: Unfortunately our room had a strong smell to sewage. The smell came from the bathroom. Closing the bathroom’s door and lighting up the fireplace fixed the problem! :)

Pros: Comfort in the room, friendly staff, good breakfast.
Cons: Small bathroom. We asked for gluten free food for my mom but they didn't have.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The open fire place , and the managers are super , very attentive .
Cons: That we had to leave !!
6,8 Good
Cons: Shower attachment to wall broken and door did not slide smoothly. No tea or coffee facilities outside of breakfast and breakfast commencement too late for any guests doing walks in the national park.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: We loved everything. Beautiful hikes, pleasant city, very friendly hosts.
7,5 Good
Pros: The best is the serra de Estrella itself. It's just incredible! Come to Manteigas to see it! The breakfast is good for Portugal (but nothing hot). The host is very polite and happy person :) and his wife is responsible for the breakfast. Very clean - it's important.
Cons: In our journey it was the most expensive place, but you have to pay for the place. The check-in after 4PM - really? :)
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location! Rooms were great, nice restaurants nearby. Staff were so lovely and we were very well taken care of.
Cons: Wish there were screens in the windows, lots of flys in the room.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Great value for money. Cleaniness of the place. Sympathy of the people who are running the place, they try their utmost to help in any situation that comes which is not as good as it could be. Overall a pleasant stay, which needs to be carefully thought of.
Cons: Breakfast could be improved, but it's ok. Sound Isolation could improve (some rooms are next to the entrance of the building. Definitely should improve the door sounds by making them more silent, very heavy old style doors, the locks and open closing echo through the building. Try not to stay in lower floor rooms.
10,0 Excellent

Cons: Nothing!
9,5 Excellent

Cons: none
9,5 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is amazing like explained in other reviews but we really want to focus on how amazingly friendly the staff is. They are kind, helping. Without them the experience would be only good and they make it very good. Thanks for everything we had very nice 2 days: location, design, the products used in the hotel, the wool, the fireplace, amazing breakfast and diner. Everything was nice.
Cons: The only thing I can say is that the shower is small.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Impressive nature surrounding the hotel!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing hotel in an amazing part of the country. There are great hiking trails in the area with stunning landscapes and vistas. The hotel is the cherry on the cake. The design and the atmosphere are wonderful and the service impeccable. Would definitely recommend it. The hotel Casa de São Lourenço belongs to the same owners and is a nearby 5 star hotel with a fantastic restaurant. Rubem and his team made our evening there unforgettable. Big thanks to all.
6,8 Good
Pros: Amazing staff and service at the hotel was amazing. The staff gave us amazing 5 star service, especially at dinner and breakfast, check-out and luggage handler.
Cons: It is not a 4 star hotel. At most, 3 stars. The rooms were small and uncomfortable. The bathroom was ridiculously small. The shower was so small, I could not bend up or down.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Everyone at the hotel was really nice and the whole environment was very relaxing. It was the perfect place to get away for a long weekend and to enjoy the fresh air in the hills. It was our birthday weekend and the hotel surprised us with a yummy chocolate lava cake desert and sparkling wine. Overall everyone was very attentive and accomadating. We certianly hope to come back again.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Staff was excellent, they were so friendly and kind especially to our daughter. We stayed in 4 hotels during our trip to Portugal and this one was the best at all, we would change our plans to stay here in the near future. We loved our suite and the amenities were great. Not felt as if we were in a hotel, the 2 living rooms with fireplace made us feel like we were in our own home. The indoor pool and spa was excellent but the best part was the dinner, their set menu for 2 nights was divine paired with really good wines.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Your attention makes the difference! From the email guiding us to the hotel, small treats to please us, kindness of the entire staff made us feel our priority was to relax. And indeed, the surroundings were breathtaking! The hotel is decorated with very good taste, a tribute to local and Portuguese manufacture that we particularly cherish. Congratulations and we count the days until we return!
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Its weird and wonderfull!
Cons: No faults

Pros: Fantastic in all aspects, expectations far exceeded!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Casa de Santa Ana da Beira is a historic house, typically Portuguese, that has been very sympathetically restored, turning ground floor rooms that used to store wine, potatoes and other produce into charming and spacious bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom. A good breakfast is in an airy, modern room overlooking the swimming pool. Hosts Paula and Joaquim are gracious and welcoming, and speak good English. We had a lovely night there.
Cons: I can't think of anything!

Pros: Cozy room with nice bathroom, the view we had was not as good as other rooms. It's a homely hotel - looked to be family owned & operated.
Cons: They first gave us a room that had better view but smelled heavily of cigarettes smoking so we asked to change room. Not much variety for breakfast, very simple.

Pros: Really enjoyed our evening meal. We were tired after travelling and it was great to enjoy a nice meal in a relaxing dining room atmosphere.
Cons: Everything was great.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The staff is great, they make you feel welcome immediately. The room looks pretty basic like the whole hotel, but there was nothing we missed. A hidden gem is the restaurant: We had some of our best dinners during our holidays here, with excellent service. The local food they prepare here is extraordinary. The hotel is right in the middle of Serra da Estrela Natural Park and offers a good starting point for hikes.

Pros: Everything including the restaurant.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: For Portugal standards the accommodation was clean, spacious and comfortable. For this price absolutely unique. We enjoyed it! No parking stress, own restaurant, nice and friendly atmosphere and owners, good location.
Cons: A bit more variety and freshenes of the breakfast would be good (old bread, p. e). We didn't understand the local restaurants offers. Every restaurant is offering almost the same dishes, almost in the same quality. The quality of the food could be improved (not fresh, oily, heavy).

Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms nicely decorated in simple modern style. Pool area nice bonus. Fantastic view from room and restaurant.
Cons: Liked everything
9,3 Excellent
Pros: The location was good The breakfast was also very good
Cons: All hotels that we stayed in throughout Portugal and Spain, provided maps of the local area to all customers. The hotel is on the side of the mountain, but was difficult to get to - streets going up and streets going down were very strenuous. We never did find the centre of town When we went looking for the "centre of town", we were not informed that we had to use our car. Walking was quite strenuous. We also failed to find a restaurant in the mythical "centre of town".
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent location in beautiful surroundings.
Cons: Hotel restaurant was closed on Sundays - ho hum! Not really a complaint, but the food was rated as good and we missed out. Excellent restaurant right next door though.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Rafael and his brother are fabulous hosts who make your stay very comfortable. They entertain you with humor while providing a copious dinner. We recommend fully to have dinner in the hotel as well. Although the hotel is way over 20 years old, it is maintained at top level, the facilities are all in good order and the rooms and bathrooms are very hygienic. The environment is worth discovering with it’s beautiful scenery and hiking possibilities in the mountains! Very priceworthy. We’ll be back!
Cons: The only thing I didn’t like is that we hadn’t have more time to stay!
9,5 Excellent
Cons: Friendly staff. Great food. Nice pool

Pros: Fun fact, my room was in the hall that connects to the restaurant, big plus for that. Local cheese was extremely good.
Cons: The bathroom might get the floor wet due to the position of the shower.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful location. Excellent view.
6,8 Good
Pros: The staff were welcoming and friendly. Bed was comfortable and shower hot. Fire in sitting room was lovely. Only stayed one night as driving through the area.
Cons: Basic decor. The room didn’t face the view and given the hotel was nearly empty, it was disappointing. The meal in the restaurant is a buffet and was ok. There were more choices for dessert than main course which were limited and basic.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The Serra da Estrela is amazing
Cons: Probably a bit too expansive for the overall experience, but I guess the fact that there was a bicycle granfondo at the same time raised the price
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic location and views (when it's not raining/foggy). Free onsite parking. Check in lady was very nice and friendly.
Cons: No dinner. Was told the chef was on holiday, so they didn't do dinner. Had to go to shop/cafe next door and make do with a sandwich. Very disappointed, as I'd swapped from a hotel in Seia town for this mountain retreat experience. Mossies. Never imagined mosquitos would be that far up a mountain, got bitten to hell. Staff not very sympathetic.

9,5 Excellent
Pros: The ambiance of that old house was just amazing. I usually prefer to be in quieter places like my own room but the lounge felt so cozy with the fireplace and all that carisma it called to me. I ended up spending a lot more time there that normally expected.
Cons: Unfortunately the old carisma the house had was a little bit much when it comes to the beds. I could not move an inch, the bed creaked everywhere.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: The Casa is stunningly beautiful. We had our own quarters and it was very cozy and very comfortable, breakfast was very nice and the staff was very friendly. Our (very large) dog enjoyed its stroll in the garden, and sleeping by the fire stove. The location is excellent if you want to be close to Torre, where the Serra's summit and ski resort are located, yet still wish to stay in the foothills. What I appreciated very much, is that the owner posted back to us an item which we had left behind.

Pros: Lovely local cafe downstairs, the room was small but bed was comfortable and everything we needed! Good value for money!
Cons: The google maps pin didn’t quite show the building so it was a bit hard to find but we just looked into the cafe underneath and the lady brought us up to the reception and showed us the room.

Pros: It was clean
Cons: Things did not work like the Tv, mirror light, bath plugs in one of the bathrooms not the right size, baths too small, shower arm broken.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff, the room was very clean and the bed, sheets and pillows were really comfortable. A great value for money, naturally taking into account the type of accommodation and hotel it is. Generally speaking the bathroom would welcome some renovation.
5,5 Okay
Pros: The town of mantiegas is very beautiful. Be sure yo see the tourist information desk for information about sites to see in the area.
Cons: This guest house is old, the rooms are ridiculously small, cold, and very old. We had to pay extra for a room with a view even though we were promised one in our booking. They offer nothing, no cups, no heat, no room to put your things on.
