Pros: Absolutely incredible hosts, so friendly and helpful, the food was incredible, the ambiance relaxed and comfortable, the pool was warm and lovely. Was sad to leave, brilliant stay, wish it was longer. Sander and Juliet made the stay wonderful and their children are gorgeous! Can't wait to go back!
Cons: That we couldn't stay longer
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We had a fabulous 5 night stay at African Rock Lodge. Sander and Juliet were amazing hosts, they made us feel welcome from the minute we arrived in their gem of a lodge. Sander was really helpful booking us some great trips-boat cruise, private game reserve drives and gave us good tips on other things to do during our stay. We had breakfast and dinner each day at African Rock Lodge, both delicious, pre dinner drinks around the fire pit set the scene for a delicious braai each evening. Don't hesitate in booking to stay here, we were sad to leave such a lovely relaxed lodge.
Cons: Nothing-everything was great!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect, the hospitality was just great.
Cons: Everything exceeded our expectations.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We had a fantastic time at the African Rock Lodge and would highly recommend staying here. The host went above and beyond to ensure we had a fantastic time. He took us on a Blyde Canyon Day Tour, picked us up from the airport and transferred us to our next accomodation at an additional cost (much cheaper than other tour options). The room was clean, neat and styled beautifully. The food for breakfast and dinner was delicious. We also made use of the bikes and road around the estate seeing Giraffe and Zebra! We are already looking forward to returning again with our friends. Thank you!

Pros: This is a small bed and breakfast type experience with 4 very nicely appointed private rooms with baths. The owners cook you an excellent breakfast and gladly take you to dinner in the town and share their experiences living in South Africa for the last 20 years. The owners are a couple originally from Holland...very nice people! The lodge is immaculate and very well appointed with a great outside space for eating, pool for swimming, fire pit for evening drinks, etc. The lodge is in a wildlife estate...it is a "neighborhood" with large lots and paved roads then has dirt, bush roads you can explore in your car to see all the wildlife that does not just stroll by the pool. :) There zebra, giraffe, warthogs, all types of antelope, porcupine, etc....and a leapard on site. We were there just after the mating season so there were little ones running around everywhere....including lots of birds...kingfishers, rollers, hornbills, ibis, etc. The location is great because even though you are among the wildlife, the roads are all paved and you are literally 5 minutes from town (fuel, restaurants, shopping, and the airport. You are also very close to the Kruger gate.
Cons: The place was excellent, but this is not "in the bush, roughing it, safari" type experience. So if you are looking for that, go into the park or sabi sands (where we stayed for a couple of days at Umkumbe lodge. Loved both experiences!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything from superb hosts, to fabulous clean and super comfortable facilities, to wonderful food. We could not fault this lovely lodge and would highly recommend it to any future travellers. We wish we had stayed longer and will be back.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The environment is lovely. Environmental friendly with wild animals moving freely around the lodge.
Cons: Wild animals around our room

Pros: What can I say about this place?!! Words aren’t enough to describe how fantastic our stay was here. It is incredible! What makes it so remarkable is the heart. The property is run by a beautiful couple, it’s family run and the heart of the place is family. With their two adorable children, immediately when you arrive, you feel welcomed. Sander and Juliet go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and quickly a part of the African Rock Lodge family. Every evening Sander cooks up a BBQ feast on the braai, which was one of the best meals we had during our stay in South Africa. Everything is priced reasonably, you don’t feel cheated or over charged. Sander does his best to recommend the best tours and excursions to do in the area, again at a very good price. We cannot wait to return to South Africa, just to stay at Africa Rock Lodge and to catch up with my new friend Emily. This place is a joy!!
Cons: Nothing! Everything was great.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It's only fair to give African Rock Lodge a 10. We arrived at the lodge after visiting the panoramaroute. It's located perfectly. We booked this based on reviews and pictures. I can tell you that the pictures don't do the lodge enough justice. The lodge is more beautiful in real life. When we arrived the owner, Sander, came out immediatly. Sander speaks the dutch language fluently. I also heared him speak English and German fluently. He helped us with our lugage and showed us the room. And what a room! Its decorated in African style, but you still feel right at home. Its provided with adaptors for charging and even extra towels and bathrobes for the swimmingpool. We booked a safari at Krügerpark and it was exactly as described. The lodge provided us with breakfast take away and Sander even got up at 5 to wave us goodbye. We paid the safari when we checked out. The owner didnt charge us the amount that we discused, it was cheaper! It was cheaper because 2 other people went with us on the sagari. So a 10 for honesty! We slept perfect at this lodge, it was quiet and the bed was great. In the morning we went on a mountianbikeride, which Sander recommended. The bikes were provided for free. And it was awesome!! Seeing wild animals, such as giraffes, pass while riding a bike, it's an experience we will never forget. After the ride, we took a swim in the swimmingpool. The pool was freshly cleaned and had the perfect temperature. We ate dinner twice at this lodge. And breakfast once inside the lodge. And what a meals!!!! All the meals were freshly made and it was a buffet. So you can choose between different meats and veggies. I would deffinetly book this lodge if i'm ever in the area again.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: There were free bikes that we road around the neighborhood and saw zebras, giraffes, deer, and warthogs. Such a great location! The owner is very friendly and helpful. The hotel is very well decorated and stocked with everything you need. The owner has obviously thought about every detail of the room and property. It was amazing. And such a great price for what you get. The breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed the cheap, good local beers.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We had the most fabulous time at this lodge. Sander and Juliet have created a wonderful setting with a warm and gentile atmosphere. True luxury is not about fluffy towels and butlers, more about kind and genuine hosts ensuring their guests relax and have everything that they need in a very comfortable environment. These hosts appear to get it just right effortlessly but I’m sure a lot of hard work goes into making a perfect lodge, thank you so much.

Pros: Everything! A very professionally run Game Lodge with excellent staff, superb facilities and fantastic catering.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The facilities, room, staff, food and game drives were all extraordinary. It was very good value.
Cons: I personally found the bed somewhat uncomfortable, however my family did not have any issue. Bring a good rain pancho, because theirs are nylon and not completely effective if it rains during a game drive.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Very nice staff, superb game drives, good food!
9,6 Excellent
Pros: We had the best time during our stay, everything is taken care off. Great location, conveniently located in the game reserve, safaris were amazing. The food, especially dinner, was delicious and very cosy in the boma.
Cons: Nothing
9,2 Excellent
Pros: It was dry season when we where there and the Lodge provided a lovely oasis of greenery to sit and relax in the garden watching the odd buffalo or warthog test out the fencing! The sleeping accommodation was large and comfortable and the outside shower was, well... a little different. The evening meal taken with the other guests was an enjoyable affair and breakfast was a thorough mix with the usual offerings. They're got the game drives off to a tee. We liked the fact we kept the same ranger/driver for all the drives so we didn't go down the same routes again and again - and the ranger sought out species we'd not yet seen. I felt they try to group guests with the same arrival dates as well for the same reasons. A nice touch. So was it worth it? Well, leaving aside the comfort factor - we got to see 4 of the 'big 5' - close up. By that I mean within a few feet - a male lion was more or less by the wheels chewing his way through an Impala snack. No Elephants on our drives - but we did miss the last one (airport beckoned). We had a Ford Ecosport and I wouldn't have liked to have driven the 7km track to the lodge in anything less robust. Not a problem - just something to be aware of.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Our stay was perfect. Special thanks to our great guides Sam and Richard who did everything to give us the ultimate Safari experience including the big 5!
Cons: Nothing - everything was great
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The food has a strangely familiar 80s dinner party vibe that I love and is cooked really really well. The drives were great and we saw so much. If you have a few days for a safari then I can't say strongly enough that Mohlabetsi and the Balule are a great choice.
Cons: It doesn't feel as bush as some but this was my second visit in 4 months so not much I don't like.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Every meal was lovely. We ate out, looking over the reserve, under the stars, accompanied by the Rangers who shared great stories with us all. The staff were extremely helpful and looked after us really well. Rooms were plenty big enough and had all you needed for a comfortable, relaxing stay. Our room had views out over the reserve. The afternoon dip in the pool was an added bonus, but all in all, a great place to spend a few days if you get a chance. Oh, and by the way, the game drives, Rangers and Trackers were awesome. Top marks all round for a fantastic lodge. I can see why a number of guests we met return again and again.

Pros: Out stay at Khaya Ndlovu was incredible. We took two days off to relax in nature during an extremely busy period. From the word GO everything was outstanding. The service, the views, the massages, game drive and last and certainly not least THE FOOD!!! I cannot fault a single thing and I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to feel at home on a luxury game farm surrounded by wildlife in the most serene setting i.e basically everyone! We cannot wait to be back. THANK YOU TEAM KHAYA NDLOVU
Cons: N/A
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The staff were absolutely amazing. The food was excellent. The views, the garden and the property lovley. We will go back there for sure.
Cons: Maybe they should have block out curtains in the bedrooms the light outside shines through the curtains so it makes the room very light.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The game drive was exceptional
Cons: None
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Setting and view.
Cons: would have liked a bath tub
9,2 Excellent
Pros: I’ll start with the watering hole. What a gem of a place. Both days were saw activity there right in front of us. You don’t have to move from the sun loungers it’s that good! Staff are excellent and happy to help out where they can. Room was good, but the bathroom was rather small and no bath :( Good onsite Rhino rehabilitation centre to show what good work goes on thanks to this charity. Complimentary laundry was a god send. Chef created some incredible food! That and the backdrop meant it was a perfect setting for couples.
Cons: Hornet in the bed, somehow got through the mosquito netting. Also in our room it looked straight out onto the arrival path and car park so curtains needed to be closed after a shower etc and had to stay closed on wake up before we got dressed- spoils the tea in bed looking at the view.
7,1 Good
Pros: Main house is beautiful and view from the pool magnificent.
Cons: Dinner - although the fish was lovely in main course, would of liked a choice between 2 options - one fish or red meat? The facilities of the garden suite - ie kitchen cupboards, utensils are outdated and kitchen dustbin lid broken. During our game drive of 3 hours we did not stop for our mid-drive drinks, which we were looking forward to.

9,6 Excellent
Pros: It’s a quiet place, perfect to chill surrounded by wildlife. You will get the chance to see lots of animals in the garden, from imapalas and monkeys to elephants!!!
Cons: The road to the lodge it’s not in the best conditions and even though it’s only 15 km away, it can take you about 40 min to get to the main antrance of the reserve.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Bed very comfy and BIG Food excellent Hoist very friendly and super
10,0 Excellent
Pros: This place is next to perfect in every way. The hosts go out of their way to make everything completely effortless and comfortable. The elephants in the garden made it special. The wildlife and birds next to the river are mesmerizing. The river location magical and the food was amazing. This is a place to come to relax and unwind. It’s small yet large enough to do your own thing and not be disturbed. The pool is perfect. The hosts, Riana and Ane are diamonds who couldn’t do enough to make our Christmas break one of the best ever. Living in South Africa, we would rate this as one of the best lodges that we’ve stayed in. We are definitely planning another trip here. Bonus we saw giraffes and zebras as we left.
Cons: There is nothing that we didn’t like.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It was absolutely magnificent. Kim and Sander are so lovely and kind hosts and overall most interesting to talk to. The lodge is right on the river and you can spend the whole day watching animals passing by in the garden and on the river. Kim is also an amazingly talented chef...every evening was like heaven on our plates. And for me it was just a once in a lifetime experience because Kim knows about gluten and lactose intolerance and she prepared so many nice dishes for me. They also arranged a game drive where we saw 4 lions just next to the car. This continued under water because both recommended the best dive spot in South Africa. Thx so much and good luck with your new project, the Bare Feet Retreat. We will come back.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Great hosts and an unbelievable setting. Could sit watching the river all day. Food was also very tasty and large portions of top quality home cooked meals.
Cons: Facilities are definitely more worn and tired than you expect from photos and social media. Cost touch on the high side.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: What a gem! It's a very small, family run lodge - 4 very nice rooms, immersed in nature. Wonderfully relaxing, perfect choice if you are looking for peace and quiet. We stayed for two nights but would gladly have stayed more. Excellent food.
Cons: The dirt track going there is pretty bad but not unmanageable even with a standard sedan. Wouldn't want to try it with rain, though.
7,1 Good
Cons: small room with standard comfort

9,6 Excellent
Pros: The location on the river
7,1 Good
Pros: The room was very impressively decorated, loved the bathroom and views from the private deck were just lovely. Animals roaming on the lawn, a river beyond, peace and quiet, what more could a guest ask for. A few more tea bags would not have gone astray.
Cons: Dinner and breakfast was ordinary, nothing to rave about and little thought to presentation and service. Staff need more hospitality training
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Stayed in the Owl House. Very beautiful and spacious for the 2 of us. Only 1 bathroom which may be an issue with more people. The grounds were beautiful, very special having animals walking around.
7,1 Good
Pros: The location is too far than expected when we got there. That gravel!yoh. Its very long and need someone with Bakkie. Otherwise, the place is so quite and peaceful for one to forget about everything and think about only themselves. And the stuff, God i already miss them. They are lovely and kind to their guest.
Cons: Well, I didn't like not having connection, but after they explained to me why, i loved the idea and forgot about my phone. No television but it was worth it without it.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Food was excellent
Cons: Would prefer a tv in room although it is not common for lodges to have a tv in room
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent getaway place, nice and quiet am definitely coming back
Cons: I love everything about this beautiful place
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location, lots of wildlife and peaceful. The lady who ran the place was lovely
Cons: The drive is very long and off road, which is ok if you know but would be impossible at night. There was no hippos but I understand we just were unfortunate. There were small touches that were forgotten.
6,7 Good
Pros: The friendly staffs
Cons: No TV. Poor internet network

Pros: All the staff were wonderful, particularly Patrick and Frans, who were extremely knowledgeable about all the animals and the whole area. Eliot was very flexible about his menu due to my food allergies.
7,6 Good
Pros: friendly and helpful staff
Cons: direction not easy to find
6,8 Good
Pros: Food, location
3,6 Mediocre
Pros: The room was nice but there were 2 single beds and no double bed
Cons: The food was terrible, cold and out of date. The lodge ran out of food for breakfast on our second day so we packed up and left. It was more like a 2 star hotel than a 4 star.
