Car rentals in Platanias offer a wide range of models, including mini, economy, compact, sedan, luxury, minivan, pickup truck, and SUV rentals. The rental car you settle on should be large enough to accommodate you, the person (s) you are traveling with, and your luggage. If you plan on using the vehicle alone or with another individual and are on a budget, consider leasing a mini or economy rental. On the other hand, if you intend to use the vehicle with up to four other individuals, rent a sizeable sedan or minivan. Your rental car should also be easily drivable to the destinations you intend to visit. Most of the roads within the urban parts of the village are tarmacked, but a good number of the roads outside it are dirt and gravel made. In case you intend to visit destinations served by dirt or gravel roads, consider renting an SUV. With one, you won't worry about getting stuck while on your way.

Speed limits in Platanias vary. They're usually stated on easily visible signs planted along the streets. In this city, unless otherwise posted, you must not exceed 50 km/h (30 mph) when driving in a built-up area and 90 km/h (56 mph) while on the highway connecting it to other Greek villages. Local police have speed trap detectors on several of the roads in the city. This being the case, if you'd like to avoid altercations with authorities and unnecessary fines, don't speed.

In Platanias, parking is permitted along most of the city streets. Although these parking spots are free, they're usually difficult to find vacant, especially within the city center. If you don't find street parking within the city center, you can leave your car in a paid parking lot, such as Paid Parking Olea, addressed at PEO Kissamou Chanion 236. Different parking lots have varying rates. Averagely, they charge 1€ ($1.10) for an hour of parking.
