One of the most beautiful Victorian buildings I stayed in
The hotel owner and stuff are extremely nice, the food is great, every small detail in decoration (incl music!) is so so lovely
This place surprised me: it is really difficult to describe. Not sure it was what I was expecting. Very unique, renovated Edwardian meets Bohemian meets Colonial. Kudos for the unconventional deco, overload of antiques, Belgian carpets/tapestry on the walls and quaint dinning room area on the veranda overlooking a green garden with a "queens tea party" chaise lounge. The room(s) was really big with a large "grandma's old feather bed" and loads of feathered pillows and cushions. The TV is situated in a cupboard pretending to be a mirror, A very large bedroom with double doors leading onto a communal veranda, crazy chandeliers, two occasional chairs with a coffee table with two dainty port glasses and a port decanter, plus a Victorian lounger. A kitchen with fridge, glasses and two porcelain tea cups (pinky in the air, type) leads of the bedroom. It also has double doors leading onto the communal veranda. Another set of doors leads into a small study and yet another set of doors leads into a walk in closet and a a very large bathroom all in white, with the bath situated in the middle of the floor and the nice size shower built into the wall, double vanities and a bidet. The curtains are unique lace over 100% light blocker. According to the Butler this room is the preferred suite for honeymooners. The staff were trying to be helpful but the poor folk had long ways to walk up and down marble stairs.
Having said all of the above, there was no hot water in the evening. I had asked for "no feather products" to be in the room as I get an allergic reaction. There were a LOT of feathers resulting in no sleep. As quaint as Grandma's bed was, it was just too soft and feather pillows are really uncomfortable. It seems that appearance is more important than real comfort. The duvets (2) were thick (full of feathers) and hot and cumbersome. But they looked very nice. For the price I would have expected a hairdryer and some soap. I did find the shampoo (I think) but is was not labelled so its anyone's guess. The deco in the whole house was a little "haunted house" type in a way whilst the floors creaked and the doors squeaked at opportune moments. I think the grand piano in the communal lounge was playing by itself (???)......
Great location, the staff was great, good value for money.
Truly Pretoria's best kept secret! Timeless antiques, grandeur and lavishness in every room and on the grounds! Excellent service, friendly and attentive staff. A must visit
No in-room phone to call for room service, although they do provide room service.
The breakfast was delicious, and the staff was friendly.
Paid 2100 for one night. The decoder wasn't working, the bed springs are worn out and make one hell of a noise. We found bottle lids under the bed. The pool and jacuzzi were dirty.
