Depending on whether you plan to do a lot of driving with your hired car in Kochi and beyond, you may feel more comfortable in a smaller car on India’s narrow and busy roads. Many streets in smaller towns are not wide enough for two lanes, so a smaller vehicle may help you here as well. A navigation system and air conditioning would be definite bonuses while driving in India, as any new country can be confusing to navigate and India’s climate can get uncomfortably hot for long car rides.
Speed limits in India are fairly high, varied and often not regarded by locals. On most urban roads, the speed limit is 70 km/h; for highways, 100 km/h; freeways, 120 km/h; and the national upper speed limit is 140 km/h.
Due to the amount of traffic that steadily increases at a constant rate, parking is limited in Kochi along with the rest of India. Generally, with patience, you will find parking in the city at a rate of around Rs 40-50 (A$ 0.71-0.89) per hour.
The average price of fuel in Kochi is R89,57 per litre over the past 30 days. Filling up a tank of fuel costs between R1 075 and R1 433, depending on the car size.

Cons:I was supposed to get my car at the kochi airport. After getting out of the airport, I looked around for someone from Avis, but found no one. Waited for 45 mins and kept looking around, but no one arrived. Meanwhile asked around at the airport if there was any Avis counter, but there was none. Finally called the number provided by kayak, and the guy who picked up said it was the wrong number and put down the phone. I tried the number again, same guy picked up, this time I was more adamant and asked him if he was from a car rental agency, he said yes. I asked if it was Avis, he said no, but they had a tie up with Avis. I told him I was supposed to receive a car at the airport, he said he knew nothing of that, and besides he didn’t have any cars to give anyways. With that he disconnected the phone. Thank you Kayak for a fantastic start to vacation. Never again will I use your website.
