Because many parts of the island are rural and are not necessarily connected to public transportation, renting your own vehicle is one of the best ways to travel to different neighborhoods and see all of the sights on your to-do list. Plus, having a rental car will allow you to visit the island at your own pace and schedule. If you are going to go to the beach, snorkel, kayak, swim, or cycle, having your own car will make it easy to transport everything you need.

Driving in Saint Croix is a particular experience, due to how unique the island and its roads are. For example, although most roads have two lanes, they are known for being quite narrow, resulting in many individuals driving slowly and cautiously. In general, drivers are known for being friendly, and they will often wave at other drivers and stop to allow cars to enter traffic. In addition, many back roads are quite steep, so you will want to proceed with caution when driving on these as well.

If you would like to rent a car in Saint Croix, keep in mind that you are required to be a minimum of 21 years old. However, there are some rental agencies that will ask customers to be a minimum of 25 years old. If you are under the age of 25 years old, many agencies will require you to pay a young driver’s fee for the duration of your rental period on a daily basis.
