Rip off
Pros: Vehicle was in good shape and had 36k miles
Cons: Paperwork was too confusing. No written explanation of insurance policies outlining what is covered and not covered causing confusion. All of this was a sales tactic to force you to buy additional coverage making you vulnerable on the spot. Forcing you to sign a blank accident claim form before you can even rent a vehicle and keeping it even after the rental period so they can write off anything to take advantage of you. Extremely high holding charge 1.5k to 3k on credit card. Very expensive per day cost for liability and collision damage waiver costs where final price is 2.5 times the rental cost.

Good service and car, lots of unexpected fees
Pros: Good car, pick up and drop off airport service, nice office, friendly staff
Cons: Lots of unexpected fees, including another insurance policy which made the insurance I'd bought online (per the order form's instructions) completely useless. The "temporary hold" on the card was another surprise. To be fair- this could have been in the very fine print when I made my reservation, I didn't read it that carefully.

Bait and Switch
Pros: Availability of vehicles on hand and excellent customer service.
Cons: The cost that was presented during the online booking process did not remotely come close to the actual cost during the car rental pickup. I ended up paying close to $1,000 overall. Also, I paid for full coverage for car insurance online as part of the online booking process so it can be ready upon pickup. But Payless did not honor the online car insurance purchase and therefore in order to finalize the car rental transaction with Payless I had to purchase their car insurance. Although Payless provided great service and had excellent cars for rent I did not appreciate the blatant disparities in cost and having to purchase 2 full coverage car insurances. I don't see myself renting from Payless again.

Cons: The Costa Rican mandatory insurance was not included in part of the cost. Also, the brakes were very spongy, forcing me to use the emergency brakes down steep hills.

Pros: Very quick and convenient shuttle to and from the airport. Car was clean and ready to go. Check out was very easy.
Cons: Website said we had the equivalent of a Toyota RAV4 but car was much smaller and ended up having to upgrade to fit 2 adults and 2 teenagers comfortably.

Didn't rent
Pros: Office was closed when we arrived late because of plane delay. No message sent to our email. Luckily, Dollar rental was still open and had a car for us - excellent experience with them.

Bait and switch
Pros: Advertises $269 for the car- cost $805 when all was said and done
Cons: The vans we rented were listed for $269 each. They charged $805 and $865 (we returned 1 low on gas). They claim it was taxes and mandatory insurance- but the guy at the checkout counter admitted they added supplemental insurance for $20/day when they said it would be $20 total. Refused to back it out. Luckily we didn't crash either van considering both had tires that were worn to the bottom of the treads. Trying to catch a flight back to states- didn't have time to argue. Don't rent from this company if you're on a budget. It will cost you more than they advertise.

Rental not honored
Cons: Payless rep not present at airport despite me calling 3 times in advance to confirm. Took cab to hotel; cost $50. Called payless in am; no car available. Had to rent from Avis at rate twice quoted by Payless through Kayak. Are you paying me back for the difference?

Diceiving
Cons: Kayak advertises the price for a week at less than $30 USD but when we got there, it was more than$400 for the week plus an additional deposit of $300-$3000 until the car is returned. This is not clear any where during booking so be prepared to have to allocate the additional funds.

A Big Scam
Cons: They made me purchase insurance even though I already had pay it ahead of time thru a third party company. They said that the minimum amount I had to pay per day was $40 dollars otherwise I couldn't rent the car.

Scam!!! Changed prices on us!!
Pros: They had a guy there waiting for us with a sign with our name on it, so we easily found him.
Cons: I had reserved the car ahead of time with a rate of $185.99 plus $19.99 a day for insurance for 10 days at San Jose airport in Costa Rica. Carmen called me a few days before to confirm and told me the total with insurance was approximately $389.00 for a Nissan Xtrail. When I arrived they said the insurance was $50 a day not $19.99. He said the $19.99 insurance would only cover 80% if I wanted full coverage I would have to pay $50 a day which would bring the total to $729 and then he tried bartering with me and said instead of paying $729 just pay $629.00. Since we were now I don't location several miles away from the airport and iPhone wasn't working we didn't really have a choice so we paid it but I would never use them again
