When using Pantelleria car hire, a compact car is recommended due to the narrow streets found in the city centre. Compact cars are easier to manoeuvre and park in tight spaces. However, if you plan to explore the island's rural areas, an SUV would provide better handling on the winding and sometimes uneven roads that lead to picturesque spots like Martingana Cove and Lago di Venere. SP5 is also known as the Tracino-Mursia Road and is a winding route that offers breathtaking views of the countryside but requires careful handling due to its narrow width.

The speed limit in Pantelleria is generally 50 km/h (31 mph) within the city limits and 90 km/h (56 mph) on main roads. It is important to pay attention to any posted speed limits while driving. Speed cameras are frequently found in high-risk areas. If caught speeding, penalties may vary depending on the car hire company. For example, Auto Europa has a policy of charging an administrative fee in addition to any fines incurred for speeding violations. It is advisable to adhere to the speed limits to avoid substantial fines.

Free parking spaces are generally abundant throughout the city, particularly outside the city centre. Via Tonnara is located near the Tonnara di Pantelleria and offers free parking spaces along the roadside. Via Boccadoro, which is situated on the outskirts of the city centre, provides ample free parking. However, if you prefer to park in the city centre, it is advisable to utilise the available paid car parks. Popular examples include Parcheggio Centro Storico and Parcheggio Piazza Roma.
