When booking your car hire in Ierapetra, you should keep in mind that Crete can experience hot summers, so having a car with effective air conditioning is important for your comfort during the warmer months. If you plan to take longer drives or explore the countryside around Ierápetra, having a comfortable car with ample legroom and a smooth ride can enhance your overall experience.  If you plan to venture off the main roads and explore more remote areas or beaches, a car with some off-road capability, such as a small SUV, may be advantageous. However, this is not necessary if you primarily plan to stick to paved roads and visit popular destinations.

The speed limit in urban areas, including residential areas and city centres, is generally set at 50 km/h (31 mph). On roads outside urban areas, such as rural roads and highways connecting towns or regions, the speed limit is typically 90 km/h (56 mph). Major highways may have speed limits ranging from 110 km/h (68 mph) to 120 km/h (75 mph). It is essential to be aware that speed limits can be lowered in specific situations like road works, sharp turns, or inclement weather conditions.

There are typically on-street parking spaces available throughout the town. However, parking spaces near popular areas such as the waterfront or city centre may be limited, especially during peak tourist seasons. Be sure to follow any posted parking regulations, and watch out for any parking restrictions or time limits. Ierápetra also has public car parks and garages available for visitors. These can provide a convenient option if you're unable to find on-street parking. It's a good idea to enquire locally, or check with your accommodation for recommendations on nearby parking facilities.
