Clean, spacious rooms. The food and drinks are good. Good Location.
The very basic ask of any overnight stay is a nights sleep. After enjoying drinks and a meal in the hotel, we retired to the room early. Around 12.30am we were awakened by a knock on the door, followed by the room phone ringing. Dazed and confused, I answered the phone to be told 'this is Victoria at reception, the maintenance man is at your door and you haven't answered' to which I replied 'sorry'. She explained 'the leak you reported in your room, the maintenance man is here to fix it, can you please let him in'. My response was 'we didn't report a leak but thanks for waking us up' 'Oh' said Victoria ' I am so sorry madam'. I hung up from there and struggled to find sleep. The next morning when checking out we were asked the obligatory 'how was your stay', which surprised me as I fully expected an explanation and apology for the previous night. When I explained what had happened the reception manager responded he could not 'jump to conclusions' – an odd response and I feel rather accusing – were we being accused of making this up? Our hotel bill was approx. £400, we raised an issue and we were met by a nonchalant, accusing attitude and barely an apology. We were told the issue would be investigated and we would be contacted but haven’t heard anything. We weren’t aggressive or rude we just wanted an acknowledgement. Overall a disgraceful way to treat a guest - maybe we didn’t spend enough money or weren’t aggressive enough to warrant an explanation. Won’t be back!
My stay at the Grand was amazing. Me and my boyfriend stayed for a weekend away and it was fantastic. The staff were so nice and they let us leave our luggage at the property when we checked in early and they even let us keep it there for a few hours after we checked out. The Grand is super close to the train station and we found it really quickly. The room we stayed in was huge, with loads of snacks and stuff in the mini bar and the spa and pool were great. Would definitely stay again!
The new rooms are excellent
The breakfast it’s buffet style it never use to be like that.
