Hôtel La Résidence Du Vieux-Port - Marseille - Building

9,1 Excellent (1 386 reviews)
R2 853+
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hôtel la Résidence du Vieux-Port in Marseille (2nd Arrondissement), you'll be steps from Old Port of Marseille and 10 minutes by foot from La Vieille Charite. Featured amenities include a 24-hour business center, complimentary newspapers in the lobby, and dry cleaning/laundry services.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The property is located right on the Old Port so all the action is right outside the front door. Rooms are quiet and have good aircon. We had a family room with a double in the front room and 2 singles in the back.
Cons: WiFi was very poor in the back room
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The view was fantastic!
7,9 Good
Pros: Great location, nice staff, nice room, great view from room. Nice (chargable) mini bar in reception. Nice breakfast.
Cons: Room noisy at night - they need to install better glazing in the rooms. They could have a courtesy shuttle to the bus/train station.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Location, attentive desk staff
Cons: A bit worn down. Needs a renovation
7,5 Good
Pros: Nice hotel in very nice location
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It had a great view of the port and a nice little balcony. Easy walking distance to Mucem and some other attractions. My reservation included breakfast which had a nice variety of options.
Cons: The balcony was through a window with a pretty good step up to get through it so although I didn't have an issue, some people might.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Great location! Great view from the room!! Morning desk guy is very pleasant!
Cons: The night desk guy is ok. Seems a little put out to be honest.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The views were amazing. We would just sit on our balcony and people watch, at night you can see the street performers and everything is lit up. And the staff were very nice and welcoming, and willing executioners to help with whatever we needed. It’s also across the street from the calanques tours, which is something we didn’t know we wanted to do until we saw people lining up. Also there’s the petite train down the port that takes up to the church and on a mini tour for 8 euro.
Cons: The pictures made it look slightly bigger and newer, but I guess it’s like that with all hotels. However it didn’t really matter, we had a great experience, just setting the expectations.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: A brilliant hotel with very friendly and helpful staff and in the best possible location with spectacular views over the old harbour. Sitting on the balcony with the evening light on Notredame de la Garde was amazing.
Cons: Not a lot.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: beautiful view
Cons: nothing

8,8 Excellent
Pros: Room was huge. Staff was very helpful in answering questions and arranging a taxi to the airport.
Cons: Location was a bit further away from the port than I expected (10 minute uphill walk) and basic room was a little louder than ideal since it was right on the main road.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The C2 is high end for Marseille and the room was enormous
Cons: The Hotel C2 is not in the port but it is also not far so the walk was good. There was only one cleaner that made me feel uncomfortable!!
9,2 Excellent
Cons: Felt the food scenario could be improved on
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The spacious modern room all white and so clean And the friendly staff We enjoyed our stay and will definitely recommend to our friends
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is a beautiful town house which has been lovingly restored. My room had a wonderful view of the Notre Dame and was only a short walk from Vieux Port. The staff were wonderful and very helpful.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was beyond beautiful. The staff was the most caring I have ever experienced. They sent us to an incredible restaurant, then arranged for us to be driven back. When we encountered a train strike for the next stage of our journey they were relentless in finding us a car and driver.
Cons: I wish we could have stayed longer.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Perfectly located in a quiet neighborhood and only 10 minutes to the old port by walking. My room was spacious(larger than expected) and clean. Comfortable beds and quality pillows. Nice care products from Hermès. Complimentary minibar(non alcohol). The AC is super quiet. The hotel also has a spa. Tried the full body massage which was great! The only complaint i have is that the staff could be better in managing english. A bit difficult to communicate. I warmly recommend this hotel! I will stay here again the next time i am in Marseille.
Cons: The staff should be able to communicate internationally. A bit hard to communicate, but they are all super friendly and i had no bigger issues.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Full marks to the architects who turns this 19th century townhouse into a contemporary hotel. So many architects would have ruined the character to maximize profits, but here they took full advantage of the building’s character, while giving it all the style you want in a modern design hotel. The service was friendly and professional - the staff seemed genuinely enthusiastic to be working there and were keen to tell us about the hotel’s history and conversion. The breakfast and bar are superb and the spa in her basement is brilliantly designed. Only a short walk from the hotel to all the bits of Marseille you could want to see! Our room was big, with high ceilings and a great bathroom (the shower had room for six people - not that we availed ourself of that opportunity!), and the toiletries from Hermès were a nice touch. We didn’t get to use the private island as we were only there for a night, but that’s just another reason to return, isn’t it? All in all a lovely experience.
Cons: No big deal, but pricing that doesn’t include breakfast is always irritating, particularly at this level.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Staff very friendly very clean and beautiful decor
Cons: There was a slight language barrier with drinks but that is not there fought we are in their country
7,1 Good
Pros: Did not live up to expectation as not very clean and not well maintained.
Cons: 1st room had a strong smell of urine and we were not ordered an alternative. Instead we were forced to upgrade.

Cons: We arrived at the hotel at 5:30pm and went to the room we were given the keys. However, the room is not cleaned and still a mess. Went down to the reception and the staff were not apologetic at all. He simply asked us to wait while he checked with the housekeeping team. He came back and said they need another half hour to clean the room. Horrible service! Cannot believe this is a 5 star hotel.

Pros: The location is outstanding, the staff is extremely kind and friendly, and the room was spotless and comfortable. We showed up right when the weather turned bad, and the front desk attendant offered us umbrellas whenever it was raining out. It is a great hotel for a weekend break, as the facilities are great and you can stay without much fuss. Check in and check out is simple, and there are several parking garages, with a hotel discount, located nearby.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Although we were on the 6th floor, without a window, (a skylight) we were expecting that. The room was spacious and modern and clean. The breakfast was excellent for 8Euros each and the location perfect for an evening stroll before an early departure the next morning. Staff most helpful and friendly. Right beside the Metro to the main train station and an easy link from there, via bus, to the airport.
Cons: Everything was good.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is right on the old port area, and our room had a balcony with a view of the port. We thought it would be noisy; there was loads going on, but the double glazing was very effective. We sat on the balcony watching the crowds, the dancing, and after dinner a superb spectacle with many acrobats suspended over the harbour. Fabulous! Great food in nearby restaurants too!
Cons: Fewer roadworks!

9,6 Excellent
Pros: Great rooftop bar and restaurant! We really enjoyed watching the sunset and taking a swim after a long day of travel! Very friendly staff! About a 15 minute Uber ride from Cruise ship port!
Cons: None.
7,5 Good
Pros: The hotel is located at the far end of the old port, near the Plage du Catalans and so quite a way from the heart of Marseille. It is new and clean and has a good pool - but get there early or all the beds are taken. The south of France in the summer is hot, even at night, so it felt odd to be provided with a duvet and then expected to sleep under air conditioning - there must be a better solution than this!
9,6 Excellent
Pros: It has some style, more of a boutique hotel than a faceless chain. Loved the comfortable seating near the pool, big comfortable chairs/ sofas. Easy walk to a sandy beach too. 24 hour front desk was good as I arrived v late. When I arrived, the front garden area at night had a real wow factor. Hilarious cacti in the gents by the bar too. Made me laugh at the silliness. Room was nice and comfortable. Bar seemed reasonably priced.
Cons: Couple of minor things. Wouldn’t stop me going back in a heartbeat though. Service at pool area was a bit slow and inattentive. (I would have bought more drinks and maybe snacks had I been approached more) Outside felt ever so slightly in need of some maintenance. Nothing major, just weathering. Shower head was the wrong one for the fitting - water came out at 90 degrees into your face! Good water pressure and warmth but a weird angle.
5,0 Okay
Cons: breakfast has deteriorated a lot (was much better in the past, now you have no service, you go to a low quality coffee machine to get your coffee, you queue - one of the 2 machines was broken and never fixed during our week stay, no more local or fresh products, everything very industrial, and staff are not cleaning after clients, the patio is invaded by pigeons as a result...staff especially at the breakfast are not welcoming, the facility has aged and is not well maintained, we had bad sewage smell near our room. Overall the hotel needs to do some effort to stay at the level of a 4 stars, management needs to do something.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location near the old port. Great pool although it was out of order on last day which was disappointing.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: We’ve stayed here four years in a row and it’s always been great - the rooms, the pool, the breakfast, the location are all excellent. It’s clean and comfortable and the food is good. It’s the perfect base to reach both the vieux port and other areas in Marseille.
Cons: Unfortunately this year the bar service was really poor. We waited sometimes half an hour for our orders and then they were often the wrong drinks when we received them. There was a big Johnson and Johnson conference on all week we were there and this clearly put too much pressure on staff - it was obvious they were understaffed. It was a real shame as it’s lively bar to sit and have a drink in but after a few attempts we gave up completely.
8,2 Excellent
Pros: The staff was great, the room clean, quiet, & spacious, and the location well within walking distance to many local attractions.
Cons: There is no van or shuttle service from the airport (the taxi cost 50E).
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The staff was excellent!! The room was comfortable and nice.
Cons: Breakfast was not included and it was very unfair....
2,0 Mediocre
3,8 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Unfriendly staff
6,7 Good
Pros: Location near center and near small beach. Nice and clean room. Reception staff professional and good.
Cons: Pigeons stoke people who eat at the terrace, walk all over tables. Do not eat outside. Staff at the bar/restaurant are unprofessional, slow. Wrong food served after ordering, 2,5hours lasted 3meals course to be served.
4,6 Okay
Pros: Bed was very comfortable and the bathroom amenities were good quality.
Cons: As we had few small issues, have been reported to the reception staff, we noticed that they were not really interested in sorting it out without spoiling our stay. When we enter in the room after checking in, we use to check if everything is ok and clean in the room. We found the jar of nuts from minibar open, so we brought at the reception straight away to report that it wasn't us who open it, but at the check out we had the charge for nuts on our bill. Secondly in the evening we wanted to make some tea in our room and when place water in the kettle, we felt a horrible smell from it. We reported and asked the staff from reception to be washed or changed, but when we returned to our room in the evening we found the same smelly kettle in the room. Called reception again to report and it took for them around one hour to replace it, without any call from reception to let us know that it will take some time to replace the kettle with another one. Apart of that in one of the mornings at the breakfast, the juice machine was broken and when we tried to make some orange juice it split over my cloths. Again staff was there seeing that, but without any reaction. Next morning (Tuesday) we came for breakfast around 9:30, the cantin area was looking very dirty: floor everywhere and no clean tables to seat and have our breakfast, we had to look where is the staff to bring us some cutlery. The hotel has a beautiful design and it is in a very nice location, but all these issues disappointed us and gave us the feeling that we were not welcome.

Pros: The staff here was so incredibly friendly and helpful. The rooms were very nice and it was a nice surprise to find out our room had a small balcony which was a huge plus! About a 15-20 minute walk from the main city center. The street was very quiet, too.
Cons: I wouldn’t necessarily say I “didn’t like” the bathroom, it was just extremely different than what I have ever seen. It was quite narrow (as a native New Yorker, this is quite common for me - haha) but there was no single door, rather than several sliding doors and the shower had no door or separation from the floor so water went everywhere

9,6 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic breakfast and views from the hotel. Friendly staff and very nice and modern hotel design.
7,5 Good
Pros: The hotel was smart clean and comfortable .
Cons: The location was poor and not fully indicated in the details. A taxi was needed to get to a decent beach , restaurants, the old port or any shopping. It was expensive to eat at the hotel although it was good food. Our main problem was the smell !! There was a very pungent smell of sewerage around the pool area and restaurant terrace which I complained about straight away . I was told it was a town hall problem and the mayor would not sort it out. This didn’t do much for the enjoyment of our holiday although at the end of our holiday they did take 15% off one of our two rooms . I wouldn’t go back again and don’t feel the reduction in price fully reflects the impact on our holiday.
7,9 Good
Pros: salt water pool and quiet room
Cons: breakfast way overpriced so did not have it. drinks very expensive
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful views across the bay. Lovely salt water pool. Nice looking spa although I didn’t try it.
Cons: There was an event on the day I arrived which blocked off the entrance road - it would have been helpful if the hotel had sent a note letting me know.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: everything
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Great location ; facing the sea . Spacious outdoor pool with sea water . Clean and spacious pool deck with a very attentive and friendly staff.
Cons: Maybe expand the selection of f&b options
5,0 Okay
Pros: Location
Cons: Just a single receptionist at check in and out! Long wait. Valet parking not always there. Food in the gastronomic restaurant awful. Room modern but no bathroom, just a wash basin and a showers in a cabinet.
5,8 Okay
Pros: Lake of staff
Cons: Services
7,1 Good
Pros: Nice view from the room, but also from the restaurant. The food was wonderful and very much choice in the breakfast
5,8 Okay
Pros: The view from the pool is great. The balcony bar at night is nice to look at the stars.
Cons: I would look elsewhere next time. The room looked as though it had just been finished. The toilet flush button on the wall had not been fitted to the wall properly there was a gap in the wall because of it. If you pay $300 euro you expect the basic finish of the room to be perfect. It looked careless or rushed. Rooms are small, bathrooms are basically just a shower cubicle. For the money you pay, it's in a nice location with great views, but the standard of the rooms isn't up to par. Layout of the hotel and signage is a strange....it's almost like they tried to be too modern. I wouldn't stay again.
9,1 Excellent
Pros: The view alone makes it worth staying! The staff is very friendly and always ready to assist. The room was very clean and spacious.
Cons: The food pricing seemed steeo, but not as steep as the €60 per night parking fee. There was no mention of it at booking time or when I checked-in.
