Hotel Poetto

The hotel provided a free bus ticket into Cagliari center which was well-worth the visit (although for the return trip the name of the bus stop was incorrect and recognised by neither driver nor passengers - luckily I recognised it as we shot past and only had a 500m walk)) A plus point could be the proximity to the beach. It was packed mostly I imagine by the indigenous population out from Cagliari. The receptionist was pleasant but lacked trainig for the job. The airort "shuttle" worked but was just a taxi ordered by them.

Frankly I ended up in this hostel by mistake. (I'm not sure how but most probably due to booking in bright sunlight with little visability on my phone screen! I take full blame even if I can't really understand!!) What an awful surprise! More expensive than the hotel chosen which was a real hotel with services and facilities- I do not consider a beach bar located somewhere a few hundred meters away to be a hotel bar, as for breakfast there was no facility even for a cup of coffee in the room prior to departure. Certainly zero information was provided concerning such services. The balcony was an enclosed cubicle on the street side (2m high protective view-proof fencing) - so just the traffic noise and smells and smoke from those outside the front door.) The room smelt of something between mothballs and salty damp mould. Given that the safe didn't work it was impossible to consider leaving the ground floor window a little ajar. The furniture was outdated and tatty as was the linnen (everything gave the impression of having been picked up for free in a second hand shop). Having travelled around Sardinia I just cannot see how the price for this establishment could be justified.
